Interior asks Congress for power to take Indian lands

In Plame Leaks, Long Shadows
The White House, hailing the lightning-quick toppling of Hussein, suddenly found itself on the defensive at home over its WMD claims. It was not just Wilson, but Democrats, reporters and a few former officials who were publicly wondering if Bush had led the nation to war based on flimsy, if not outright false, intelligence.

combined with the recent Downing Street minutes its no wonder we haven't seen this much panic since Watergate.
Follow the Uranium
This case is about Iraq, not Niger. The real victims are the American people, not the Wilsons. The real culprit - the big enchilada, to borrow a 1973 John Ehrlichman phrase from the Nixon tapes - is not Mr. Rove but the gang that sent American sons and daughters to war on trumped-up grounds and in so doing diverted finite resources, human and otherwise, from fighting the terrorists who attacked us on 9/11. That's why the stakes are so high: this scandal is about the unmasking of an ill-conceived war, not the unmasking of a C.I.A. operative who posed for Vanity Fair.

Why does Karl Rove hate America ?

Enron's Web of Influence: The Political Players
Karl Rove
Bush’s senior political adviser sold between $100,000 and $250,000 in Enron stock last June under advice of White House counsel, but participated in energy deliberations prior to sale.

also mentioned as one of the possible leakers in the Plame scandal is Lewis "Scooter" Libby:
Vice President Cheney’s chief of staff owned $1,000-$15,000 in Enron stock, sold last February.

George W. Bush's stealth war on the environment ( and Karl is the "architect" )
3) pretend to be environmentally friendly in public while slashing and burning everything in sight when nobody's looking -- a "stealth war" on the environment. The answer is, sadly but unsurprisingly, option three, the most hypocritical, dishonest, sneaky, anti-democratic choice: the stealth war.

LCV ( League of Conservation Voters) President Deb Callahan observed that "President Bush is well on his way to compiling the worst environmental record of any president in the history of our nation." In scathing language, Callahan added: "Under the Bush administration, corporate polluters have been allowed to write the laws."

K. Rove & G. Smith kill salmon for GOP votes
In early 2002, Karl Rove personally addressed the 50 most-senior employees of the Interior Department at a retreat in West Virginia. He showed them a slide presentation summarizing presidential polling and key races. Then, from the podium, he mentioned upcoming Interior Department decisions that could influence the midterm elections.

At the time, Rove noted that Oregon's incumbent Sen. Gordon H. Smith, a Republican, faced a difficult reelection. The Interior Department was then questioning whether to allow drought-stricken farmers to pull more water from Oregon's Klamath River, endangering the state's salmon population. Farmers are a critical part of the Oregon GOP base.

An inspector general's report subsequently concluded there was no inappropriate pressure on the decision makers in the Klamath case. But the controversial decision to release water to farmers resulted in the largest fish kill in the West and still angers Indian fishermen and environmentalists. Smith won reelection.

I guess people that catch, sell, or eat salmon don't count as real votes in Rove world.

O Karl Rove ( note: this column by Molly Ivins was written before the 2004 election and of course Bush/Rove carved out a slim victory based on a campaign of lies and fear)
-- The U.S. Forest Service is going to eliminate any reviews of its actions by outside agencies for compliance with clean water, endangered species and historical preservation laws.

-- The Department of Energy is moving to overturn a court decision on standards to clean up the country's most toxic and radioactive waste.

-- The Environmental Protection Agency's inspector general has concluded that senior Bushies at EPA have repeatedly made misleading statements about purported improvements in drinking water quality. (Oh no, not Bushies lying!)

Lying is not the last resort of these skunks wrapped in the flag of this great country, its the first resort. They do it often and they do it BIG. Who, but Karl "Goebbels" Rove

The New Year 1938-39

by Joseph Goebbels

We are at the close of the most successful year in the history of the National Socialist government. It is rather strange how hard it is to find the right words for the events of the past year. Everyday language is not enough to express what we feel in this emotionally festive hour, to say what moves us so deeply.

There is no doubt that the year 1938 was unique in German history. It fulfilled a thousand-year dream of the German nation. The Greater German Reich has become reality.

Joseph and Karl, soulmates and schemers who saw their day in the sun. One day, as the sunset on old Joe, it will set on Karl and these modern social darwinists who seem determined to win some bizarre game of who can be the most decadent and deceitful.
